Why did I decide to make this well because to have something that I could be passionate about but also as a gift for my mother that brought me into this world. I chose to give her something made by me so she could always cherish it close to her heart. Each jump ring and solid piece of metal shows the hard ships in my mother's life that she went through with my sister and me as well as the current ongoing hardship with not being able to see are father for almost four years now. The lighting bolt is a symbolism of our father who has been out of our lives for almost four years. This was a very challenging project for me because I had little to no experience with manipulating metal wires at all. So all the time and detail spent to put this together was well worth it to make a smile appear on my mother's face because she has been sad on the inside for a really long time. This piece as a project gives off a strong emotion to the family because life may only appear to some families as flash of light in a night sky. The jump rings show how everyone in life is connected to each other some how and that no one really gets the same treatment as they continue into a thunder bolt and shoot of set off on a journey with a new experience in store for them. The solid piece represent calm peaceful times mixed with hard ships at the same exact time. |

Why I decided to make this is because I wanted other people to know what I have gone through in life and what my life may have been when I was a child. I wanted to show how time has played a huge impact on my life and what I decided to let impact my life as I grew up. I am trying a new type of art and its called layering I am very new to this and had no idea on how to do this at all. I was confused on how to set it up and where I should put some of the pictures in the shadow box. The images show brief stories about my life and what had happened at the time of the picture or item in the shadow box. This shadow box threw some curve balls at me because it was harder to make then I first had thought it was going to be. I have tissue paper with words on it to connect some of the pictures in my shadow box. |

I have worked hard on my installation piece and deciding how I was going to make it work. I tried many test experiments with different materials before I found the right materials to use for it. I made this so that I could get a reaction out of it and have students kind of interact with it by it being in a science class room. I do not expect it to last the whole day knowing how some certain students behave in class. I expect it to last from two to three periods before a student tears it down. It tells a story about a new beginning that is just starting to be made into existence. I have no experience in doing anything related to installation projects so this was a very hard challenge for me. The boat that I was making gave me some problems when some of the wires would not stay where I wanted it to be. Some parts broke as I was trying to bend them into the shape that I wanted them in. The little person on the boat was extremely hard and difficult to bend stuff into the shape that I needed it to look like. Some of it fell apart before I even got it to school to put it up in the class room. some of the wires got smashed as I was transporting it here. |
